The province of Teruel places inside the Autonomous Community of Aragon, in the zone northwest of Spain; it is a province of interior.

The total surface of the province is 14.800 km ², of which 60 % is over 1.000 meters of altitude on the level of the sea. 75 % of its municipalities are considered to be zones of mountain by the European Community.

It is placed between two of the most dynamic axes of Spain: those that Madrid and Barcelona and the Basque Country connect with Valencia. In spite of it, the infrastructures of communication are far below of the rest of Spanish provinces, in the year 2.002 only there was 17 km from highways, and at present only it relies on a ferreous line that communicates the city of Teruel with the bordering capitals of Zaragoza and Valencia, this line shows the record of derailments in Europe, and the evil been of the railroad does that the speed average be near the 60 km/h.

Being the tenth Spanish province as for extension is the province with the lowest population: 135.858 hab. .in the year 2.001 (density of population 9,20 hab/km ², one of The Europa’s lowest). The population is eminently rural; only two municipalities have more than 10.000 inhabitants. In 80 % of the municipalities of the province there are less than 500 inhabitants (160 inhabitants of average).
