Workshop presentation

This workshop originated at the Second Biennial of the Forum in Brussels 4-5 October 2007, and the theme at that time was "The place and role of religions in an harmonious society". The reports and conclusions are available on this website. The workshop aims to brings together scholars and religious leaders from China and Europe to discuss and engage in dialogue around the role of religion in contemporary society, and also around issues of identity and modernity.

About us

The Prime Movers of this workshop are Dr. Fredrik Fällman (杨富雷), Swedish sinologist, Researcher at the Department of Oriental Languages, Stockholm University, and a Researcher at The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities and Dr. Yang Xusheng (杨煦生), Professor at the Sinological Research Centre, Renmin University of China.

Workshop’s news

— The workshop will meet in Chengdu 8-12 July 2010 with the theme "Religiosity in Modernity". Participants will come from Sweden, Norway, Italy, Great Britain, Switzerland and China, and represent Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam, Buddhism and the academic world.

— On Feb, 13, 2009 : Fredrik Fällman, Jean Fischer and Yang Xusheng participed to a debate with Chinese Internet users on Qiangguo Forum. The topic was "religion and society".
