Abstract: The “moral crisis” that Chinese society currently faces essentially threatens moral convictions, and represents the weakened influence of moral authority on society as well as the ever diminishing role of independence and its moral constraints. One of the social reasons for this crisis is the transfer of exorbitant amounts of money in exchange for influence in the economic and political spheres.
The author believes that the moral crisis is not limited to contemporary Chinese society, but also affects developed Western countries. It would thus be more appropriate to explain it as a crisis that affects modern society in general, the common feature being the market economy. As far as he protection of beliefs and moral authority is concerned in changing China, the “money for influence” exchanges have had a considerable impact on daily life. The result is a transformation of morals and growing hypocrisy.
